Our History:

Downtown Outreach Ministry: Crossover is a faith based, non-denominational, non- profit agency located in downtown Flint near the corner of Court St. and Grand Traverse. We were founded by three Flint churches in 1991: First Presbyterian, St. Paul's Episcopal, and Court Street United Methodist, who were joined in 2001 as an ongoing sponsor church by Riverside Tabernacle. These churches united to provide a convenient, centrally located, service center to help meet the needs of the less fortunate and offer programs designed to help persons become more self-sufficient . . . to "cross over" to a better life.

Crossover's mission is to help families, children, and the homeless with free emergency food, clothing, personal needs, household items (such as dishes, pots and pans, bedding, infant items, and personal care products), and other miscellaneous items. Clients who come into Crossover are screened and referred by the Department of Human Services; Love, INC; the YWCA Women's Shelter; the Wellness/AIDS agency; and a number of other churches and agencies in the area. In addition, we offer programs to improve the quality of life and self-sufficiency of clients such as youth programs and on-the-job experience.

Crossover receives its funding from individual contributions, churches, civic organizations, businesses, and grants. Food comes from donations by churches and individuals, and from the Food Bank of Eastern Michigan. Clothing and house ware items are donated by businesses and individuals.
